Test links allow for the measurement of the resistance of the earth electrode without interrupting the entire system's grounding.
When closed, it provides a continuous path to ground, allowing the lightning protection system to function normally.

When opened (or disconnected), it breaks the connection to the earth, allowing for measurements to be taken on the earth electrode.

The test link is typically located at the junction between the down conductor and the earth electrode.
